Wearing the Color Purple

Each morning that I have class or my internship I sit in front of my closet and tryand pick something out that I have not worn in a while. I have so many clothes in my dorm room in Cambridge as well as still in my closet at home; it would be a waste to wear the same few outfits (which is so easy to do for me).

This past Monday, I picked out a shirt I had not worn in a while, put on my coat, and grabbed my usual scarf. I was about to walk out my door when I remembered that I had a very nice purple scarf, that I had not worn in a while, that would also go with my outfit. I ripped off my old scarf and put on the purple one and was about to leave my room when my friend called me. I was a little annoyed that she asked me to do a small favor for her and risk being late to class, but I did not snap at her (which I have been doing lately and regret) I simply did the small favor and left my dorm room. I instantly noticed the power of purple.

After I hung up the call I thought about my nice reaction to my friend who called me early in the morning on my way to class. I was surprised that my first instinct was to respond so compliantly and had no instant negative thoughts. My purple scarf was wrapped around my neck and in my eyesight during the entire call and I think that that is the reason why I reacted so nicely to my friend (as I should). I continued to wear the scarf all day and noticed that I did not need to drink a coffee, which I usually do on Mondays (Mondays are one of my long days). The color purple is a very stimulating color and because it was in my eyesight all day, it gave me the energy that a coffee drink would. By the end of the day, I felt tired but not as tired as I could have been since I did not have a coffee.

Wearing the color purple last Monday boosted my mood and energy level for the day. The reason why it did so is because I never wear the color purple. There is a theory behind color therapy that colors can effect how we think and behave, and purple did so for me. Everyone should consider wearing colors that they typically do not wear and see what happens!
